# Slide

> Create or refine PPTX decks from links, notes, markdown, images, or an uploaded presentation on HeroBoost Starter Agent.

**Slide** is the first app in **Apps** on **HeroBoost Starter Agent**. You create a new deck or refine an uploaded **PPTX** in one Generate pass, preview the result, then download or export versions.

Path in product: chat → **Workspace** → **Apps** → **Slide** (not a separate header mode like JEV or Automation). See also [Apps overview](https://docs.heroboost.me/guides/starter-agent/apps/overview.md).

> Slide is **owner-only**. Subscribers see that the surface is not available to them. Image generation can soft-fail — your text deck can still finish if some images fail.

## Words on the panel

| Label | Meaning |

| **Apps** | Workspace tab that lists app catalog entries (Slide is first). |
| **New slide** | Start the wizard to create or refine a deck. |
| **Create new** | Mode for a fresh deck from sources you attach. |
| **Refine uploaded PPTX** | Mode when you upload a `.pptx` as the starting deck for this Generate. |
| **Instructions** | Your goal for this Generate — what to keep, change, or improve. |
| **Reference Previous Slide** | Text context only from a past job (instructions, brand, rules, URL-notes) — **not** old files or logos. |
| **Sources** | Links & notes, documents, images/logos, brand constraints, custom slide rules. |
| **Generate** | One-shot job that builds the deck from the current wizard. |
| **Actions** | After a deck exists: Edit, Save as template, Download `.pptx`, Export new `.pptx` version. |

## Create a new deck

**1. Open Apps → Slide**

In Starter Agent chat, choose **Workspace**, open the **Apps** tab, then open **Slide**.

**2. Start New slide**

Tap **New slide**. Keep mode **Create new** unless you are refining a PPTX (next section).

**3. Name, instructions, provider**

Fill the wizard steps (name, goal / instructions, **Provider & AI model**). Prefill follows Configure when supported. **Cursor** is not allowed for Slide Generate — pick **OpenAI**, **Google Gemini**, or **OpenRouter**.

**4. Add sources**

Paste **links and notes** (any mix). Use **Add files & more sources…** for markdown/text, images and logos, brand constraints, and custom slide rules.

How links are looked up depends on the provider:

* **OpenAI** — turn on **Web search (read-only)** in Configure if you want link lookup on Generate.
* **Google Gemini** — can use Google Search grounding on Generate; paste page text too when you need exact wording.
* Other providers — links may stay as notes only until you paste content or switch provider.

**5. Optional — Reference Previous Slide**

Choose a previous job for **text context only**. Re-attach files and logos under Sources if you still need them.

**6. Generate and review**

Tap **Generate**. Preview the deck. Use **Actions** to **Edit**, **Save as template**, **Download .pptx**, or **Export new .pptx version**.

## Refine an uploaded PPTX

When you upload a **`.pptx`**, the product switches to **Refine uploaded PPTX** (highest priority over Create new). That file is the starting deck for this Generate. **Reference Previous Slide** (if set) only adds background context — it does not replace the uploaded file.

**Instructions** are the goal for this Generate. They decide what the agent does. Refine does **not** mean “visual only” by itself — write what you want, for example:

* Keep the wording; upgrade layout and illustrations only
* Rewrite headlines for a sharper pitch
* Shorten bullets; keep brand voice
* Add slides or restructure for a new audience

Then **Generate** as usual and use **Actions** to download or export a new version.

## Templates

* **Choose template…** — pick **My templates** or **Built-in** to prefill a new job.
* **Save as template** — after a deck you like, save JSON template settings for reuse (not a raw PPTX as the template source of truth).

## Limits to expect

* Slide Generate is a **one-shot** path — it is **not** scheduled through Automation in the current light path.
* Image layer shortfalls can leave some slides without images while the rest of the deck completes.
* Confirm export / download on your machine after Generate; keep iterating instructions if layout needs another pass.
