# How outcome gates work

> The shared rule when a round waits for a Polymarket market or an IMD Oracle yes/no question — what you choose, what the boost waits for, and what the boost page shows.

An **outcome gate** is a result you choose before a round opens. The boost waits. People can read that rule before they join. The boost page later shows whether the result matched the side you chose.

You use the same idea in two places:

* **First round** — step **Tip conditions** in [Create a boost](https://docs.heroboost.me/guides/boost/create.md).
* **Later rounds** — the next-round form in [Later rounds](https://docs.heroboost.me/guides/boost/rounds/later.md).

Polymarket is the larger choice: the markets already exist, you pick one, and you cannot write your own question there. IMD Oracle is the smaller choice: you write your own yes/no question. On one round you pick one, not both. You can leave both off. The next round can use a different choice.

## What you see when it is linked

1. You pick the result that must be true (a Polymarket side, or Yes or No on an IMD Oracle question).
2. The round waits until that result is known.
3. On the boost page, you see the question, the side you needed, and whether it matched. Details are in [Read a boost](https://docs.heroboost.me/guides/boost/read.md).

## What differs

| | Polymarket | IMD Oracle question |
| - | - | - |
| What you link | An existing market, and the side that must win. You do not write the question. | Your own yes/no question, and **Yes** or **No** |
| Raise assets | USDC, B20 equity, or another ERC-20 | USDC, B20 equity, or another ERC-20 |
| Extra charge for the question | None from this market link | About **0.5 IMD** from your wallet on **Ethereum**, not from HeroBoost billing |
| First round | [Polymarket](https://docs.heroboost.me/guides/boost/outcome-gates/polymarket.md) during Create a boost | [IMD Oracle question](https://docs.heroboost.me/guides/boost/outcome-gates/imd-oracle-question.md) during Create a boost |
| Later rounds | **Prediction market gate** on the next-round form | The question on that same form. You still pick one, not both. |

The two pages below only add the steps that belong to that choice. They do not repeat each other.

> **[Polymarket](https://docs.heroboost.me/guides/boost/outcome-gates/polymarket.md)**
>
> Search a market, read the short brief, and set when funding ends.

> **[IMD oracle question](https://docs.heroboost.me/guides/boost/outcome-gates/imd-oracle-question.md)**
>
> Ask a yes/no question, and pick Yes or No.
